Gaim 1.5 and Suse 10.1 Proxy problem

Well, except for the screwed up package management known bug, and the flaky "Network Manager" utility, for the most part I'm very happy with Suse 10.1. It's faster than 10.0, etc.
But I've found a 3rd annoying issue, that took far too much time to track down via the developers.
The proxy settings on a per account basis for Gaim have been removed by the Suse developers!
So now it only uses the operating system's global proxy settings.
Click the "READ MORE" link for all the details...

As a big fan of Tor tor.eff.org, this is more than a slight annoyance, it's a royal PITA!

I couldn't find anything on the Internet search engines, I finally went to the gaim IRC channel. They didn't know why, so they forwarded me to the suse channel (also on freenode).
After several requests, finally someone paid attention, and walked through looking at the patch logs with the following commands (Some I knew, others were new to me):
To verify the current original version installed:
rpm -a gaim

which showed:
gaim-1.5.0-50

Then to check for patches related to proxy:
rpm -q -changelog gaim | grep proxy

Which showed:
- Updated system proxy patch to actually work and use system
- Add Federico's gaim-gconf-proxy-settings.diff
- Removed proxy crash patch (upstreamed in 0.81)
- Fixed crash when changing proxy (joeshaw).
* You can now have "reserved" chars in IM and proxy passwords

The most relevant part being:
* Tue Nov 15 2005 - hpj@suse.de
- Updated nonblock patches to handle more cases.
- Updated system proxy patch to actually work and use system
settings always.

So, normally you could under Account, click on " Show More Options ", and then there would be proxy settings that you could set on a per account setting.
But in Suse 10.1 this is completely removed!

So the only option for now, is to uninstall the suse gaim 1.5, and install a different distro/release/source version instead.

Meanwhile I'm trying to post to them a request to make this global proxy usage an OPTION, rather than a REQUIREMENT.

So I'll post in the wiki, the bugzilla, and try to join the IRC developer meeting on Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 at 18:00 CEST (16:00 GMT).

Hopefully they'll do something about it.
Meanwhile I'm going to have to uninstall everyone's gaim and install a different distro, so that I can get their Tor options going.
I hope this posting saves someone else all the wasted time trying to figure this out.

Ciao for now.
