Internet DJ shows

I am now a (volunteer) DJ for an Internet Radio station called NEKKID Radio at www.nekkidradio.com.
I'm under the DJ name of Z and the Synthetic Zen show.
My shows are 6-8pm Wednesday night (GMT/UST) and 6-8am Thursday mornings (GMT/UST)..
Here's some timezone conversions for you:
Pacific (PST): Wednesday 11am-1pm and 11pm-1am (wednesday night/thursday morning).
Mountain (MST): wednesday noon-2pm and midnight-2am (wednesday night/thursday morning).
I'm in based in Spokane, WA, USA, but the station is based in Santiago, Chile.

I play all kinds of music. Generally I start out with rock/classic rock for the first segment (four 30 minute segments per 2 hour show), then get into slightly mellower rock, blues, jazz, and upbeat new age and neoclassical in the 2nd segment. The third segment consists of music from around the world, including:
Celtic
Tibet (monks)
Europe
Bolivia
Spanish guitar
Inuit (Eskimo)
Various Native American
India
and many others.

The final segment is new age, meditative, classical and neoclassical. The idea is to start out with a beat, and slowly get mellower and mellower into a semi-meditative state.

I also mix in pieces from my two CDs (Muses of the Early Days, and Zenthetic, I go under the "artist alias" of Synthetic Zen). throughout the show segments as appropriate sometimes as well (such as it is).

I hang out in the video conferencing/chat service (100% free service) at www.jmeeting.com (as do most of the other DJs) in the NEKKIDRADIO chatroom (IRC users, servername: irc.jmeeting.com channel: #NEKKIDRADIO)., streaming live video of me showing my ugly mug to the world. :P

I'm there and on ICQ (as are the other DJs) to take requests too.

You can listen even with just a dialup connection (20Kbps or better).
So please do swing by and check out the show when you can.

Catch you on the flip side. :P

    Synthetic Zen show updates

Well, the time change has happened, so those in times zones that made the shift, take note.
Of course the schedule is always detailed at
the Synthetic Zen show web page, but just so it's posted here for clarification, those in the Pacific Standard Time Zone, show times are now:
    Tuesdays: 10am-Noon & 6pm-8pm.
Also, I created a new 4+ minute intro to my show using my own music (Runesword 2000 and Haunted Mind) with audio clips from some of movies: Apocalypse Now, Excalibur, and The Matrix (1 & 2).
Additionally, NEKKID Radio just approved the Synthetic Zen Show Promo I created this week as my first effort at making an advertisement. It was a blast. Click the link above to listen now and feel free to give me feedback, since it's my first effort, I've lots to learn I'm sure, as far has how to improve.
Be sure to catch my show, and the 30+ other live DJs on NEKKID Radio every day at www.nekkidradio.com .
You can listen with Real Player, Windows Media Player, Apple iTunes, XMMS (Linux), and many other players. Even (just) dialup listeners can play the stream as well.
    Ok, enough of advertising mode...
"We return you to the normally scheduled programming..." ;-)

    KYRS where for art thou?

They sure have been off air a lot lately (in addition to their patchy webstream being even flakier). They have formal apologies on their site, and hopefully with the improvements they're making, and the new translator (95.3 currently, 92.3 in near future), hopefully I can pick them up other than when out driving in limited areas. Meanwhile, I signed up for their volunteer list, met with their volunteer coordinator, and have signed up for their emailing list (twice now), but have not received any emails from them.
I've monitored their site for chances to help, but nothing seems to be posted there current to that effect. I've gone down to the office at different hours, and different days, about 5 or 6 times now, wanting to help volunteer, but no one has been there.
Very strange.... Hopefully someone there will get me on the emailing list for volunteering, so I can help out. Hmmmm?

The Synthetic Zen Show - New Schedule

NEKKID Radio is trying to fit in more of the DJs who want air time, so there's been a little juggling in schedules, all for the best though. ;-)

    My schedule is now:
Tuesday: 10 am to Noon (this will eventually be replaced by someone else) PST.
Tuesday: 6pm to 8 pm (this is my permanent slot) PST.
Friday: 11 pm to (saturday) 1 am (new time slot) PST.
The Friday slot is expected at some point to start one hour earlier (10 pm to Midnight PST).

Check out schedule, playlist, archived shows and more at www.thesyntheticzen.com.

Interview with Tyler Byers now available for download...

Tyler Byers was a great guest, and we had a great time doing the show. He had lots of great information and interesting stories related to the growth and challenges of his life.
If you missed the live broadcast, you can download the archived version from www.thesyntheticzenshow.com
    .
Just click the Downloads link on the left, and then click the "Archived Shows" link.

Unfortunately, it was my first interview, and I did a terrible job on my end from a technical perspective. The microphone volume varied wildly, sometimes too soft other times too loud, but you can hear over 95% of what Tyler had to say. I'm very sorry I did such a poor job with that, and other terrible broadcasting no-no's such as too many aaaahhhs, and ummms, etc. Hopefully with practice I'll get better at that aspect of broadcasting, I usually do fine with my solo shows, this was a new aspect I've not yet developed. But don't let that disuade you from catching the show, Tyler was great!

Hopefully a DJ will fill in on the NR stream, or have Dj otto queue up a "Best of Dr Z" from the archives.

The Synthetic Zen show accepted by KYRS 92.3/95.3 FM!

I have received officual confirmation that Thin Air Comunity Radio station KYRS LP FM 92.3/95.3 serving the greater Spokane area, has accepted my show for once a week broadcast!
    I'm very excited by this.
The broadcast will be in ADDITION to the current NEKKID Radio Internet streams. If you're not in the Spokane area, have no frear, you can listen online to KYRS as well, I've been donating the streaming to them for months now. Just swing by their website at http://www.kyrs.org to tune into all their great programing!
The only difference between my broadcasts on KYRS and NR will be that currently I'm apparently not allowed to play my own music on KYRS because of FCC regulations (and obviously I can't play some of the more "colorful" lyrical music).
Also, I'll bring up a little more local current affairs related to technology and privacy and civil rights, in addition to the usual national and global news and commentary I add to some shows.

However, I will still play my music on the NR Saturday/Sunday broadcasts, and of course as always, I'm slowly adding all my music as free downloads on The Synthetic Zen Show website, as well as my show archives currently downloadable as mp3's, but ipod/rss feeds in the works too.

The schedule for the KYRS broadcast is not yet solidified, so I'll post a separate announcement for that. I should be on the air though somewhere around the early part of March 2006!

The show is tentatively set for:
Sunday 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm Pacific time for KYRS.

And still I have my NEKKID Radio broadcasts on:
Saturday 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm Pacific time for NR. So tune in and enjoy!

Final Show with NEKKID Radio coming this Saturday, Nov 18th, 2006.

    Greetings,

I am regrettably giving notice to everyone who listens to my show on www.nekkidradio.com
that this upcoming Saturday, November 18th, 2006 (Sunday November 19th UTC),
will be my last show with NR.

I will continue my broadcasts with KYRS at www.kyrs.org and through my website at
www.thesyntheticzenshow.com and on KYRS FM 95.3, 92.3, & soon 89.9 FM in the greater
Spokane & Cheney WA & Cour d'Alene, ID areas.

I am extremely grateful and indebted to NR for giving me the opportunities to
learn and experience broadcasting over the Internet, and the experience has
been and will continue to be invaluable to me.

I have been disappointed in recent (many) months that it seems my show format
doesn't really map to NR's listener base. I've had shows with no one
listening by myself and one other (presumably Manny).

Whereas my broadcasts with the "real" radio station has been quite the
    opposite.

Whereas NR I receive nearly no feedback from listeners, KYRS I get wonderful
    feedback with every show.

Also the recent split, and chaos thereafter, of NR, and the additional
requests for more schedule changes, when my few NR listeners' number
complaint has been changing schedules, has made it difficult to build up any
sort of "fan base" on NR alas. But I think it really comes primarily down to
the targeted audience, the NR listeners seem to expect a few styles of more
mainstream, or on the other end of the spectrum, off the wall, programming,
and apparently not the selection I provide in my shows.

In having to decide which station I would drop and which I would stay with to
try to free up some of my overloaded schedule, I'm afraid that I will have to
give up my slot with NR.

Again I am very grateful and appreciative for honor and the opportunity of
broadcasting over 2.5 years on NR, and it is with heavy heart that I provide
    this notice.

I wish everyone in the NR family all the best, and hope for many years of
    continued growth for NR.

This is Dr Z (Hawke) & The Synthetic Zen Show, signing off from Nekkid Radio but continuing elsewhere...

Wishin you and yours, wherever you may be. Be well.
