A month of new technologies!

It's been a crazy hectic month with MerpCon just finished at the end of July, and school work, and house stuff, and medical stuff, and computer problems, and client work, it's been busy.
On the good side though, the client work is paying off.
Also, though CompUSA took a YEAR of returning the Vaio lemon (9 returns), they finally gave me in-store credit. But here's the catch, I had finally given up and bought another laptop (from Best Buy a Toshiba Satellite M45-S355) before they finally called to tell me they finally gave me credit (minus the support contract cost). Well alas, the laptop I bought was not returnable at this point.
So I used the in-store credit to build myself a new workstation since my old one has been falling apart, and built a new one for my oldest son, and upgraded the other two son's computers.
Meanwhile my Jornada 720 handheld died a few months ago and I was still "surviving" with my Palm Vx until it start to keep losing it's memory for some strange reason a few weeks ago. This made my life too chaotic so I knew I needed to get a replacement handheld. I had been eyeing a Linux-based handheld from Sharp for over a year called the Zaurus sl-c3000 (that link details the older c3000.
Well, but now the sl-c3100 had come out. It looked like almost everything I've been wanting in a handheld for all these years finally come to fruition at last!
The catch: you can't buy it in the US, only Japan. So I had to go through an importer who translated the Japanese to English (via Dynamism http://www.dynamism.com ).
I received it this Monday and have been figuring it out daily since.
It is absolutely wonderful. It does everything you expect of a modern PDA/handheld, but also does just about everything (in a reduced scale) you can do with a laptop running Linux (which is what I run anyway)!
There's a lot to learn and eventually I intend to dedicate a section of this site to it, with all the downloads, patches, tweaks, apps, and experiences and reviews of it since I plan to have this for many years.
Right now I'm trying to get an Infra-red wireless folding keyboard to work. A Think Outside Stowaway keyboard. The c3100 detects the keystrokes after I installed IRK and set it to Targus and 5600/7x0, but the keymapping is all wrong.
I've posted on the www.zaurususergroup.org website and am waiting for responses. If no one has done the keymapping yet, then I'll do it and contribute it back to everyone as a big believer in the open source methodology and philosophy.
Meanwhile I've still a number of computer issues to resolve and a client project to finish by the end of the month, while juggling everything else, so I don't have time to go into the many other great features of this device, but when I get breathers or just need a break, I'll post photos, downloads, reviews, and much more.
Cheers!
